The philosophy of Imam Mahdi (May Allah Hasten His Reappearance)

In the Name of Allah

(The Philosophy behind the Holy Existence of Imam Mahdi (May Allah Hasten His Reappearance
Kabudan, Bardeskan, Fifteenth Shaban 1422 A.H.

The philosophy of Imam Mahdi (May Allah Hasten His Reappearance) and the principal of Wilayat are issues about which the world of knowledge has given many opinions. There are many questions about whether the philosophy of his existence is for his knowledge, for his Wilayat, for his orders, for his justice, for his favors, for his affection, or for the calmness of the hearts.
What all researchers, scholars, gnostics, and transcendental philosophers say about the true Imam—who is like the world’s idol, a model for the world, the principal of all principals, the beauty of all beauties, and the calmness of hearts—is that he has to arrive in order cure those who are anxious, those who have no shelter, those whose moans have reached none, and those who have shed tears but no one has paid attention to them. He has to come to soothe all such hearts.
Therefore, the philosophy of the existence of our Maula, the Proof of Allah, the son of Imam Hassan Askari is not to kill. This is a very important issue.
He will not come to wound bodies. He will not come to cut off heads. He will not come to destroy homes. He will not come to change connections into isolations. He will not come to increase pain. He will come to give life to bodies. He will come to give hope to all the hopeless.
His name, his title, his origin, his magnificence, his beauty is the power of God and the reality of God. He is the true Imam, the peace of God. He is Imam Zaman, Mahdi from the progeny of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
What is the reason for the existence of Imam Zaman? This question is asked in some universities of the world of Islam. Maybe you are a teacher, a lecturer, an instructor, a head of a family, or in another position where you deal with hearts. You may be asked about the role of Imam Zaman. Some may ask you, “What pains does he cure?”
The world of today which is the world of atoms, the world of phantoms, in a world which a scientific machine is set free, sent into the infinite atmosphere, and while taking photos the atom particles are counted and thereafter the information is sent to computers, in such a changing world, in such a tumultuous world, what can the role of a single person be? What can he do?
If a person asks the above question and you reply, “You are not religious to say such things” he/she will probably say, “You, yourself are an unbeliever”. If you tell him, “You are ignorant” he/she will say, “I am not, you are ignorant.” What should we say in reply to such statements?
I have studied this issue and have come to the following conclusion:
Nature is aimless and does not seek its own perfection, but rather moves towards destruction. This is the dialectic of nature.
Nature attempts to carry people towards destruction. Nature does not want you to live. It does not want you to be vibrant and lively. Nature does not want people to be researchers or scholars. Nature plays tricks and then takes away people’s entire existence. It takes away the light of the eyes, the hearing of the ears, the words of the mouth, the circulation of the blood, the attraction of the electrons, and the existence of the body.
Nature’s work is force; it is destruction. It destroys like the walls of a fifty year old house get destroyed. Nature does not want the walls to be strong; it wants the trees to fade and the seas to dry out; it wants people to be distressed.
Hence, a great power, an idol, a reality has to stay eternally in the world and step on nature and fight it and say, “O nature, you want walls to get destroyed, the trees to fade so that you can be the master of all, but no I have to stay and be the master.”
If upright people exist, nature will not be able to be the master. For manifestation of the imperfect, the upright should be dormant and sleeping.
If a person is a researcher, the uneducated can do nothing. For the ignorant to manifest themselves, they should stifle research. This is what nature does. Hence, nature does not seek an ideal goal; it does not seek its own perfection, but rather moves towards destruction.
Nature wants to destroy walls and beings. However, a great upright man fights nature, steps on it and does not allow nature to destroy people.
The work of nature is similar to a wheat mill which turns all particles of the world into floor but Imam Ali (AS) who is like the centre of the world says in his Shaghshaieh sermon:
I swear by God when I was sitting at home and those who had no right stepped forward and I stayed at home like a person whose eyes were exposed to dust or a person who has swallowed a piece of bone but is not able to remove it although I am the centre and the axis of the world and do not allow the world to change into floor. I will not allow the world to get destroyed. I will not allow this to happen and neither will Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
Not only Ali (AS) but even Fatemeh (SA) has the power to save the world. Imam Hossein (AS) and Imam Hassan (AS) too have the same power. Imam Sajjad (AS) has the same power. Imam Baqir (AS), Imam Jafar, Imam Moosa (AS), Imam Reza (AS), Imam Javad (AS), Imam Hadi (AS), and Imam Askari (AS) all have the same power.
These Imams had this power during a certain period. Imam Ali (AS), Hazrat Fatemeh (SA), and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) had this power for a certain time. However, there is a center of all existence which fights nature and does not allow people and their existence to be destroyed. He is our Maula, the Proof of Allah (May the souls of all be sacrificed for him). This upright existence does not allow nature to destroy people. Furthermore, for this fundamental existence to survive, certain bright stars have been designated to strengthen Imam Zaman. These are the Shahids (Martyrs). A Shahid too does not allow nature to destroy people.
Hence, what is the philosophy behind the existence of Imam Zaman? It is for the world not to get destroyed. It is for receiving Mercy; for receiving God’s Favor. Imam Zaman receives with one hand and passes on to people with the other. He prays for people. He asks for Mercy. These are all facts.
If we consider the world to be a unit like a person what does the world signify? A billion years ago, hundred billion years later. A person needs a heart, a thoughtful brain, eyes…
The heart of the world is one reality and that reality is Imam Mahdi (May Allah hasten his reappearance).
Imam Zaman is the heart of the world. People’s hearts pump tons of blood every day. If God forbid a person’s heart does not pump blood; if one cell does not function correctly, the entire body will immediately stop functioning. Even if for a moment Imam Zaman discontinues to bestow his favors upon us, we will all be destroyed. We are alive and receive favors and blessings because of the holy existence of Imam Zaman. Even if he cuts off his favors for one moment, everything in the world will be destroyed.
Therefore, Nabuwat is the eye of the world, Ismat and Wilayat the thoughtful brain of the world, and Imam Zaman the heart of the world.
