Imam Ali's words to Kumayl Ibn Ziyad-part2

In the Name of Allah

Imam Ali (AS) moved away and left Kumayl. Some time passed. The air and the environment were so dark that no face could see the other.
Kumayl ibn Ziyad was struck by the fearful thought that maybe an undesirable event would befall Ali (AS) and that an enemy hiding in the darkness of the night would strike him. Kumayl said, “It was as though I did not want to break the (war) line. This was my promise but hurrying towards my beloved is my scorching love and burning love tears everything apart until one’s goal is achieved.”
Anyway, Kumayl broke the line and as he walked a little, he heard a whispering sound. He approached it and realised that Ali (AS) had dug a hole in the soil with the palm of his hand and had lowered his head into the earth. He was whispering fiery words.
Kumayl approached Ali (AS) who looked at Kumayl with compassion and asked, “Kumayl, why did you break the line? “ He replied humbly, “I did not keep my word; I feared that the enemies would strike you.” Imam Ali (AS) said, “Be calm Kumayl. If He does not wish so and if it is not destined by Him, Ibn Muljam will not come.”
Kumayl asked, “O master, what did you say to the soil?” Imam Ali (AS) replied, “Whenever the wave of sorrow abounds in the heart of Ali (AS) and I do not have a confidant to whom I can speak of my woes, I dig the earth with my own hands and speak of my sorrows to the soil so that they remain hidden forever.”
There is a view which describes the triple affairs and we express ourselves thus in different words—the world has the following three periods:
The period of fantasy and poems during which absurdities, myths, and poems abound. Whenever they find that the world is one of poetry and absurdities—a world of people who are story lovers, neither the beginning nor the end of that period will have value. Rather the world will pass by like futile poetry. It is not known how long this period will last.
The second period is one of lust, anger, blood-shed, and murder. Any powerful or capable person thinks of murder, crime, effortless goals, and violence instead of choosing virtuous thoughts. During this era the people are violent towards each other. All those who have the ability will not hesitate to put their efforts in vain and futile actions. People resemble their societies more than their parents.
The third period is an era of intellectual governing and world-wide justice. During this period, the world is full of calmness and love. It is a world wherein each person receives his own share. This period is one of wisdom and maturity—it is a period of receiving what our true essence deserves. It is an era of blossoming of insight, gnosticism, and realities. It is also a period during which whosoever exists has attained the most beautiful and the highest peak of excellence. Many consider this to be the period of Imam Mahdi (May Allah hasten his reappearance).
